Pipers Corner School hosted a gala performance of its inaugural production ‘We Will Rock You’ to celebrate the opening of the new theatre. The gala on Saturday 26 November ended a hugely successful four-night run of the production. Michael Holden and Ian Rees dusted off their black tie garb to attend the event.
The quality of the production and performances was excellent, far beyond what anyone might reasonably expect of a school production, and featured some very strong leads. The production made full use of the new facilities, from the orchestra pit to sound, projection and lighting (including a good deal of moving lights – a late addition to the permanent lighting stock thanks to some extra donations). The 47-strong cast were clearly very glad to have a generous 12m wide proscenium stage to work with (which can be closed down to 9m for more intimate productions) – as was noted in the vote of thanks following curtain calls, it was a tremendous step up from the school’s old stage in the multi-purpose Landau Hall.
We wish the school the best of luck in their new facility, which will no doubt produce many exciting projects for years to come. You can find out more about the theatre on our projects page.
