We are looking for a junior consultant to join our team of eight consultants in Norfolk.

Adrian James Acoustics is an established and highly respected consultancy specialising in building acoustics, with a very good track record in auditorium design in the UK and overseas.  We also undertake interesting projects in environmental noise, electroacoustic / sound system design and theatre consultancy.  We work from a purpose-built office in a rural setting five miles outside the very pleasant cathedral city of Norwich.

We provide all the benefits you would expect including generous salaries, paid overtime, flexible working hours and time off to study for further qualifications such as the IoA Diploma.  In return we expect our consultants to take an intelligent and thoughtful approach to every job – we do not believe that there is such a thing as a “standard project” – and to contribute to the continual development which keeps us at the forefront of our profession.

Applicants should have a good degree in a suitable subject which need not be acoustics; our consultants also have degrees in physics, music and audio engineering, electronic engineering and software design.  The ideal candidate would have 1-2 years’ experience of acoustics consultancy, but we will also consider those new to the profession.  We would be particularly interested in meeting candidates with a background in technical theatre who would also be able to support our theatre consultancy work.  Experience of working with stage lighting, sound, communications and rigging and an understanding of the design principles behind these would be a particular advantage.

Experience of the following would also be useful:

  • use of CAD programs including AutoCAD and SketchUp
  • computer modelling of room acoustics (CATT or Odeon)
  • prediction and calculation of sound insulation (Insul or similar)
  • sound insulation testing to Approved Document E and BB93
  • environmental noise measurement and assessment
  • designing and commissioning sound systems for speech and music
  • vibration measurement and assessment

Most importantly, however, we require an excellent standard of verbal and written communication and good report writing skills.  A driving licence and a willingness to travel both within and outside the UK will also be essential.

Applicants should in the first instance send a CV and covering letter to
