Michael joined AJA in 2015, having previously worked as an Environmental Protection Officer with a local authority Environmental Health department assessing noise pollution from residential, industrial and public entertainment sources. He has represented the local authority in Licensed Premises hearings and is experienced in the control of amplified noise from venues and open air concerts. He has also advised contractors on suitable limits for construction noise and drawn up COPA 1974 Section 61 Consents.
In 2007 Michael attended the IOA Certificiate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement at the Colchester Institute and followed this with the IOA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control via distance learning with the IOA, with specialist modules in Environmental Noise: Measurement, Prediction and Control and the Regulation and Assessment of Noise. He then went on to take an MSc in Applied Acoustics at Derby University, graduating with Distinction in 2013; his dissertation was an investigation of the noise exposure levels experienced by participants in exercise classes that used amplified music.
In 2014 Michael took an extra module of the IOA Diploma in Noise and Vibration Control Engineering.
He is a member of the Institute of Acoustics and is accredited under the ANC registration scheme to take sound insulation tests in accordance with Approved Document E and is an inspector for the Robust Details sound insulation scheme. He is currently working on a number of environmental noise assessments.
